Osborne House

The House can be visited

Osborne House in East Cowes on the Isle of Wight once served as a private residence for Queen Victoria and her family. It features Italianate architecture and parklands.

History+

Queen Victoria acquired the estate in 1845 to create a private retreat for herself and her family. She had the original house redesigned and expanded in the Italian style. She spent many years here and passed away in this palace on January 22, 1901. After her death in 1901, her successor, King Edward VII, had no further use for the country estate and gifted it to the British nation in 1903. From 1903 to 1921, a part of the estate housed the Royal Naval College.
