Palais Augarten

Palais Augarten, a residence in the second district of Leopoldstadt, is now primarily known as the home of the Vienna Boys' Choir.
History+
The origins of the palace date back to the late 17th century when it was built by Johann Bernhard Fischer von Erlach for the councilor Zacharias Leeb. Its creation is closely linked to the redesign of the baroque Augarten in the French style in 1712. In 1780, the palace came into the possession of Emperor Josef II and remained the property of the Habsburgs until the early 20th century. During this period, especially in the 19th century, it was the scene of numerous social events and housed a salon that attracted personalities such as Richard Wagner and Franz Liszt.
