The Bentzelscher Hof in Mainz is a baroque residence whose history dates back to the late 16th century. Although completely destroyed during World War II, the building was meticulously reconstructed in the post-war years.

History+

The origins of the Bentzelscher Hof can be traced back to 1594, when a predecessor building was erected. This served as a guesthouse for the Bentzelscher Hof under Chancellor Jakob Bentzel von Steinau. Later, his son Anselm Franz Freiherr von Bentzel resided in the property, making a name for himself as curator and reorganizer of the University of Mainz after the dissolution of the Jesuit order. The current baroque building was originally constructed in 1741. It was completely destroyed in 1942 during World War II but was rebuilt between 1967 and 1970.
