In Heidelberg's Old Town, the Palais Boisserée shapes Karlsplatz with its Baroque architecture. Originally built as a noble court, it gained fame as the home of an art collection and as a meeting place for Romanticism.

History+

Between 1703 and 1705, the Electoral Palatinate Court Chamber President Franz von Sickingen had the palace built as a family residence. From 1810 to 1819, it housed the collection of Old German paintings by the brothers Sulpiz and Melchior Boisserée, which later found a new home in the Alte Pinakothek in Munich.
