The Chiemseehof, a palace that once served as a bishop's residence and now forms the political center of the state of Salzburg, stands in Salzburg. This building, part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site "Historic Centre of the City of Salzburg," unites history and the present within its walls.

The origins of the Chiemseehof date back to 1215, when the Archbishop of Salzburg founded the Diocese of Chiemsee. The Chiemseehof was first mentioned in documents in 1216 and subsequently served as the permanent residence for the Bishops of Chiemsee in Salzburg. Around 1300, it was expanded into a residence. A court chapel, comparable in size to a church, was consecrated in 1497. After a fire at the end of the 16th century, the complex was rebuilt, expanded, and redesigned starting in 1694. The Chiemseehof remained the home of the Chiemsee bishops until 1812.
