Enffans d’Avernas Palace

As early as 1596, a property belonging to Baron Georg Ruprecht von Herberstein likely stood on this site. It is confirmed that the Herberstein family acquired four neighboring houses in 1674 and subsequently had the current palace built, incorporating existing structures. In 1728, the city palace became the property of the Counts of Schrattenbach and was recorded in the city books as the “Schrattenbachisches Haus.” Following the Schrattenbach family's bankruptcy, Dismas von Ramschißl acquired it in 1787. After frequent changes in ownership, in 1840, Count des Enffans D’Avernas, a descendant of an old French noble family, purchased it, and the palace is named after him. He had the building extended upwards. In 1828, the palace served as the first office building for the Mutual Fire Insurance Company before being re-rented in 1876.

Today, the palace is privately owned. The original interior furnishings have not been preserved.
