Dietrichstein Palace
The Palais Dietrichstein is a former Graz city palace located on Burggasse in the Innere Stadt district.
The original owners of the palace were the noble family of the Counts of Herberstein and then the Counts of Galler. From 1635 to 1803, it was owned by the Dietrichstein family, who gave the palace its current name, until it then belonged to Franz Xaver von Fraidenegg and his heirs in 1827, and from 1879 to the Conrad family.
Architecture and Design+
The core structure of the Palais Dietrichstein dates back to the third quarter of the 16th century. The three-story complex was rebuilt in 1785 according to the plans of master builder Joseph Hueber. Worth seeing is the staircase with its stucco ceiling and the stair railing, which, like the hallway, was created between 1770 and 1775 and indicates the transition between Rococo and Classicism. The large hall on the third floor with its barrel vault is decorated with secco paintings depicting scenes from Ovid's Metamorphoses, attributed to Franz Stainpichler. Additionally, rich stucco decoration in leaf, band, and lattice work style can be found in the room.
