In Wilster, Schleswig-Holstein, stands the Palais Doos, a former grand bourgeois residence that now serves as the city's town hall. This late Baroque building has furnishings, some of which originate from a demolished castle.

History+

Between 1785 and 1786, Chancellor Johann Hinrich Doos had the palace built as a residence for his family. The brick building with a mansard roof was modeled after the Ahlefeldt Castle in Pinneberg, known as the Drostei, and is attributed to the Hamburg architect Ernst Georg Sonnin. A large part of the interior, including furniture, paintings, and garden statues, was acquired by Doos during the sale of Friedrichsruh Castle, a residence in Drage that was demolished in 1787.
