Galler Palace

The Palais Galler, also known as Palais Prandegg, is a historic residence in Graz's Inner City, on Karmeliterplatz. It continues to shape the cityscape.

The origins of Palais Galler date back to 1674, when Count Viktor Jacob von Prandegg acquired two predecessor buildings along with their gardens. These were demolished to erect a new, Baroque palace between 1680 and 1690 under the direction of master builder Bartholomäus Ebner. As early as 1693, the property changed hands, passing to Count Wilhelm Galler. In 1748, it was referred to as the “Breuner House,” and from 1785 to 1803, Countess Elisabeth von Galler is documented as the owner. Later, Friedrich Chevalier de Bachet commissioned master builder Andreas Stadler to carry out a renovation.
