Graimberg Palace

At the corner of Kornmarkt stands the Palais Graimberg, built in the Baroque style in the first half of the 18th century. In 1839, the building was renovated by Count Charles de Graimberg - a royalist who had fled France before the French Revolution - and used as a private residence and for exhibiting various artifacts from Heidelberg Castle. Count Charles de Graimberg was dedicated to the preservation of Heidelberg Castle, and with his exhibition, he convinced his contemporaries that the further decay of the castle ruins had to be stopped and that they should no longer be used as a quarry. Graimberg is therefore celebrated as the savior of the castle ruins. The antiquities collected by Graimberg are now housed in the Kurpfälzisches Museum (located in Palais Morass) and form the foundation of its collections. Since 1978, municipal authorities have been housed in Palais Graimberg.
