Herberstorff Palais
The Palais Herberstorff, also known as Freyspurghof, is a residence in the old town of Bad Radkersburg in Southeast Styria, Austria. Its three-story Renaissance arcaded courtyard makes it one of the distinctive buildings in the region.
History+
The history of Palais Herberstorff dates back to the late 13th century when Hartwig von Monsberg, a regional burgrave, resided in Radkersburg. The Monsberg family owned a free court in the city for an extended period. After the Monsbergs died out around 1410, the free court passed to the related Stickelberg family. In 1432, the property came into the possession of the Enzersdorf family through the marriage of Barbara von Stickelberg to Heinrich von Enzersdorf. After several generations, Wolf Christian von Enzersdorf sold the estate in 1580 to Karl von Herberstorff and his wife Anna Susanne, born Liechtenstein. The couple had the old manor demolished and commissioned master builder Giovanni Battista della Porta de Riva to construct the current three-story palace with its arcaded inner courtyard.
