The Palais im Großen Garten in Dresden is a Baroque pleasure palace situated on the edge of the city center within the parkland of the Großer Garten. It is considered the first secular building in Saxony after the Thirty Years' War and is among the earliest Baroque structures in the German-speaking world.

History+

Around 1680, the palace was built as a pleasure retreat for the Albertine branch of the Saxon princely house. From about 1730, it housed parts of the Royal Art Collections, and in the 19th century, it also hosted exhibitions. The building suffered damage during the air raids on Dresden in 1945. Its exterior has since been restored, but the reconstruction of the interior is not yet complete.
