Kaunitz Palace
Palais Kaunitz is a palace in the Lower Austrian market town of Laxenburg.
The original three-winged palace was built between 1698 and 1703 under Prince Dominik Andreas Graf Kaunitz. It was built at a time when the imperial castles were also being constructed and the nobility settled nearby. Around 1775, the palace was rebuilt to its current state under Wenzel Anton Kaunitz.
In 1935, the palace was purchased by the Sisters of Mercy of the Holy Cross. Until 1988, it temporarily housed a school for training kindergarten teachers, as well as a domestic science school, and also a secondary school with a boarding school. The convent also had a second location in Hinterbrühl in the Sauerstiftung, which also ran a primary school.
Parts of the palace were renovated by the Republic of Austria in the years before 2010 and are now the location of the UN International Anti-Corruption Academy.
