From the Beginnings to the Present Day
The palace was built around 1600 by Canon Dietrich von Ehrenberg. In 1625, ownership changed to Baron Knebel von Katzenelnbogen. Since 1861, the palace has been owned by the city of Mainz. During the Second World War, the palace was severely damaged and rebuilt in 1953–55.
