Palais Morass

The construction of the Palais Morass took place in 1712 under the direction of the jurist Johann Philipp Morass, who served as Rector of Heidelberg University at the beginning of the 18th century. The building was erected on the site of a former poorhouse, known as the “Elende Herberge” until 1693. Both the exterior and interior design of the Palais followed the Baroque style of its construction period. A later renovation in 1778 adapted the ballroom on the first floor to the Louis-seize style. Since 1906, the Palais Morass has housed the Kurpfälzisches Museum, which showcases the art collection of the city of Heidelberg.
