In Mainz, the Osteiner Hof is a residence built between 1747 and 1752. This palace, distinguished by its Baroque architecture and risalits, once marked the end of the former Thiermarkt and is now an architectural monument in the state capital of Rhineland-Palatinate.

History+

The palace was commissioned by Franz Wolfgang Damian von Ostein, a high official of the Electorate of Mainz and brother of the reigning Elector Johann Friedrich Karl von Ostein. Johann Valentin Thoman was responsible for the design. Following the occupation of the left bank of the Rhine by French revolutionary troops and the expropriation of the nobility, the Osteiner Hof became public property.
