Podewils Palace

The construction of the Palais Podewils took place between 1701 and 1704, based on designs by Jean de Bodt. In 1732, the property came into the possession of Heinrich Graf von Podewils, a minister of state under Frederick the Great, who enhanced the interior with wall paintings and stucco ceilings. In 1874, the Berlin city council acquired the palace to establish the Märkisches Provinzialmuseum there a year later, while the upper floors were used for municipal offices. Between 1881 and 1896, the building underwent renovations and an annex was added.
