History+

The construction of the Palais Rohan took place between 1731 and 1742, commissioned by Cardinal Armand-Gaston-Maximilien de Rohan-Soubise. Architect Joseph Massol realized the building based on designs by Robert de Cotte, on the site of the former archiepiscopal Palatium. Louis XV resided here in 1744, Marie-Antoinette in 1770. Napoleon Bonaparte used the palace several times between 1805 and 1809, having some rooms redecorated. His later wife, Marie-Louise of Austria, also spent her first night in France here in 1810. King Charles X was a guest in 1828.
