In Düsseldorf's Old Town, the Palais Schaesberg is a historic residence that is now part of the St.-Ursula-Gymnasium. This listed building has clear proportions and elaborately designed window frames, which evoke the architecture of Bensberg Castle.

History+

The history of Palais Schaesberg began in 1684 when Elector Johann Wilhelm gifted an undeveloped plot on today's Ritterstraße to his General War Commissioner, Friederich Christian Freiherr von Spee. Von Spee's widow acquired an adjacent plot from the Brothers of the Cross in 1695. After a change of ownership in 1696, both parcels came into the possession of Count von Schaesberg in 1713, who then had the palace built there.
