In Vienna's 4th district, Wieden, is the Palais Schönburg, a residence. It features baroque architecture.

History+

The origins of Palais Schönburg date back to 1450, when the property came into the possession of the Starhemberg family. Between 1705 and 1706, the financial expert Gundaker Thomas Starhemberg had a baroque palace built according to designs by Johann Lucas von Hildebrandt. In 1811, the estate passed to Joseph Nepomuk Keglevich Graf von Buzin, who had alterations made. Around 1841, the Schönburg-Hartenstein family acquired the palace and redesigned the interiors, with the exception of the library. After the sale of shares to Conti-Bank in the 1970s and its bankruptcy, Marian and Danek Gertner took over the palace.
