In Graz, in the Bürgergasse in the Innere Stadt district, is the Palais Schwarzenberg, a former residence distinguished by its unusually narrow and elongated shape. Today, it houses a music academy.

History+

The origins of the current Palais Schwarzenberg date back to between 1570 and 1580, when it was constructed incorporating two older buildings. In 1596, it was owned by Hanns Jakob Khisl, a baron. Khisl sold the building in 1613 to the Bishop of Gurk, Johann Jakob von Lamberg. His successor, Bishop Sebastian von Lodron, sold it in 1631 to Count Georg Ludwig von Schwarzenberg, who gave the palace its current name and had it redesigned. In 1775, Prince Ferdinand von Schwarzenberg incorporated it into a family fideicommissum.
