Soestdijk Palace

In the municipality of Baarn lies Palace Soestdijk, a castle with a long-standing connection to the Dutch Royal House of Orange-Nassau. Originally conceived as a country estate, it evolved into a royal hunting lodge and later a permanent residence.
History+
The origins of the estate date back to 1638 when Cornelis de Graeff acquired the land at Zoestdijk and had a country house with a park built there. Following political upheavals in 1672, his son Jacob de Graeff sold the property to his friend William III of Orange. The latter commissioned Maurits Post to construct a hunting lodge on the site of the existing country house.
