The Palais Stürgkh is a former residence in the city center of Graz, captivating with its eventful history and architectural evolution from the Middle Ages to the 20th century. It combines various stylistic elements and is now a vibrant part of urban life.

History+

The origins of the Palais date back to 1521 when it came into the possession of the Graz merchant Georg Stürgkh through inheritance. He was ennobled in 1532 after acquiring Plankenwarth Castle. In 1668, Hans Christoph von Stürgkh, a descendant of Georg, was granted the title of baron. After 1718, the Palais became part of the family entailment. From 1756, architect Joseph Stengg was commissioned with repair work. In 1798, Count Karl von Stürgkh exchanged the Palais for another building belonging to Count Sigmund Auersperg, with an additional payment of 12,000 gulden. The new owner had the Palais extended by an additional floor and given a new facade around 1800.
