Palais Thurn und Taxis

The palace was built in 1848 by the then jewelry manufacturer Güllich from Pforzheim as a residence. In 1887, Gustav Prinz von und zu Thurn und Taxis bought the property. In 1915, the palace passed to the city of Bregenz and was used as official housing for high-ranking officials. After the end of the Second World War in 1945, Moroccan soldiers used the palace. They senselessly caused severe devastation in the building. In 1953, the city handed over the palace to the Professional Association of Visual Artists of Vorarlberg. From 1983 to 1984, it was renovated and converted into an exhibition house for the Professional Association of Visual Artists of Vorarlberg and the city of Bregenz.
