Palais Weimar

The Heidelberg Palais Weimar is located at Hauptstraße 235 in Heidelberg. Built at the beginning of the 18th century by Johann Adam Breunig for the city commander General von Freudenberg-Mariotte, the city residence is named after its former owner Prince Wilhelm von Sachsen-Weimar-Eisenach. In 1921, Victor Mordechai Goldschmidt and the von Portheim Foundation he founded took over the building from him. Today, it houses the Foundation's Museum of Ethnology.

After the Electoral Palatinate government temporarily established a calico and chintz factory there, the Palais became the seat of the Hohen Kameral-Schule, which had moved from Kaiserslautern, and the residence of Georg Adolf Suckow, who taught chemistry, physics, biology, and mathematics there, from 1784 onwards.
