Vrana Palace, a former royal residence, is located on the outskirts of the Bulgarian capital, Sofia. It is distinguished by its historical significance as a residence of the Bulgarian tsars and now serves as the official home for Tsar Simeon II and his consort.
History+
The history of Vrana Palace began in 1898 when Tsar Ferdinand I acquired the property just outside Sofia. The residence was built between 1909 and 1914. During World War II, the palace suffered partial damage from British bombing raids, which were repaired in 1947. After the end of the monarchy in Bulgaria, the estate was confiscated by the communists. Following the fall of the communist regime, the last Tsar Simeon of Saxe-Coburg-Gotha and his sister Princess Maria Luisa returned to the palace.
