District Office

The Palatium was the former official residence and cellar building of the Würzburg Cathedral Chapter in Ochsenfurt.

The core of the Palatium dates back to the 14th/15th century and was first mentioned in 1334. After secularization, it served as the seat of the Ochsenfurt district office in the Kingdom of Bavaria and then, until the administrative reform in 1972, as the administrative building of the Ochsenfurt District Office. Afterwards, the building housed the Würzburg District Office branch. At the end of 2015, the former branch office of the district administration had been used for months as a decentralized emergency shelter for refugees. After a longer period of vacancy, the Palatium reopened its doors on November 1, 2022, again as an emergency shelter for refugees in the Würzburg district.
