Paschinger Castle

The castle was built at the end of the 17th century and was owned by the merchant Anton Paschinger from 1793 to 1822. In 1917, the writer Stefan Zweig bought the property.

The building is a prime example of Baroque architecture, characterized by its symmetrical facade and ornate decorations. The main entrance is adorned with a large stone portal, featuring intricate carvings of mythological figures.

The Grand Hall

The Grand Hall, located on the first floor, is the most impressive room in the castle. It boasts a high vaulted ceiling with frescoes depicting scenes from ancient history. Large windows offer panoramic views of the surrounding gardens.

The castle is surrounded by extensive gardens, laid out in the French formal style. They include meticulously manicured hedges, elaborate flowerbeds, and several fountains. A long tree-lined avenue leads from the main gate to the castle entrance.

The Orangery

Within the gardens, the Orangery is a notable structure. Built in the 18th century, it was used to house exotic plants during the winter months. Today, it serves as a venue for various cultural events.

Beyond Anton Paschinger and Stefan Zweig, the castle has been home to several other prominent figures throughout its history. Each owner left their mark, contributing to the rich tapestry of the building's past.

Stefan Zweig's Era

During Stefan Zweig's ownership, the castle became a hub for intellectuals and artists. Zweig hosted numerous literary salons and gatherings, attracting many of the leading cultural figures of his time.
