The castle was built in 1540 on the walls of a previous fortress by Leonhard Pilbis, who was married to Klara Feurin von Pfettrach near Landshut. Further owners included Raimund Fasold von Schäsen and Oswald Egg (hereditary marshal and colonel-sergeant). The castle, destroyed in the 30 Years' War, was rebuilt by Nikolaus Bernhard von Egg and Baroness Maria, née Baroness von Königsfeld and Affecking. After this, ownership passed to Erasmus Lampfridsheimer; in 1678 to Veit Müller (administrator of the estate of Count Porthia von Lauterbach); Herr von Schleiß (steward in Rottenburg); in 1700 Baroness von Schleiß (née Countess von Maxlrain); in 1709 Ernst von Lindenfels and Maria Theresia; Max Albert Count von Lodron; Baron von Wadenspann; Harrter (administrator in Wildenberg); Herr von Magg (colonel); Herr von Keck; Thomas (called Heiselpetz); Schmidleitner Josef; in 1843 Oekonomierat Otto Schmidmayer; in 1922 Eduard and Karl Wittmann and since 1977 to Dr. med. vet. Jordan Eduard.
