Poptaslot (Castle)

The origins of Poptaslot date back to the 15th century, when it was built by the Heringa family as a fortified house. In 1603, the estate came into the possession of Tjalling van Eysinga through marriage, who remodeled it and gave it its current architectural form. After the death of the last resident from the van Eysinga family, the castle was sold in 1687 to Dr. Henricus Popta from Leeuwarden. He primarily used it as a summer residence until his death in 1712.

The castle is no longer inhabited today, but its rooms are furnished and equipped in the style of the 17th and 18th centuries. Poptaslot serves as a museum. On the upper floor, among other things, two oak bed niches from around 1540 can be seen.
