Porta Praetoriana

The Porta Praetoriana was one of the four gates of the fortified camp of the Praetorian Guard, the castra praetoria, in Rome. It was integrated into the Aurelian Wall, along with parts of the northern and eastern fortifications of the camp, between 271 and 273 AD. The gate, which predated Aurelian and is clearly distinguishable from the Aurelian Wall by the technique of its brickwork, can now only be recognized by traces, as it was dismantled and its passages closed at the beginning of the 4th century. It was flanked by two towers.
