Porta Sanqualis

The Porta Sanqualis was an ancient city gate of the Servian Wall in Rome.

The gate was named after the nearby Temple of Sancus, which stood on the Quirinal Hill. The gate was therefore located south of the temple on the Collis Mucialis and was the southernmost of a total of five city gates of the Servian Wall in this area, whose course is well understood there based on numerous remains. The Porta Sanqualis is associated with remains of the wall on Largo Magnanapoli and must have been very close to it, if the preserved tufa blocks did not belong to the gate itself and formed its exterior. In the immediate vicinity, remains of a multi-story building, probably from the Sullan period, have been preserved in the former Palazzo Antonelli.
