Prinzenbau Castle

The older part of the Prinzenbau was constructed between 1822 and 1825 under the direction of princely building inspector Uhl. It served as the residence for Princess Amalie Zephyrine and was one of the first buildings outside the then-city limits, set within the “Langer Garten”. An expansion took place from 1842 to 1847 by building inspector Bröm, who added the “Neuer Prinzenbau” with neo-Gothic details and one of Europe's first hot water heating systems. The palace's appearance was influenced by Prince Leopold and his consort Antonia. Between 1988 and 1994, the entire complex underwent renovation and conversion for use as the State Archives, during which historical reception rooms such as the Garden Hall, Mirror Hall, Black Hall, and chapel were restored.
