Prince palais Bad Doberan

The Prinzenpalais in Bad Doberan is a Neoclassical residence built in the early 19th century, which transformed from a private architect's residence to a ducal summer retreat and later a hotel.

In 1821, the Prinzenpalais in Bad Doberan was constructed by Carl Theodor Severin in the Neoclassical style. Initially designed as a home for Severin and his family, he was compelled shortly after its completion to sell the property to Hereditary Grand Duke Paul Friedrich. Paul Friedrich was the grandson of Grand Duke Friedrich Franz I and, since the death of his father Friedrich Ludwig in 1819, held the title of Hereditary Duke of Mecklenburg-Schwerin, equivalent to a hereditary prince, which gave the palace its current name. Paul Friedrich's family used the building as a summer residence in the following years.
