Duke Peter Friedrich Ludwig had the two-story, originally nine-axis building with a central risalit and gable triangle built between 1821 and 1826. From 1860 to 1863, a representative extension was built according to designs by the Wiesbaden court architect Carl Boos. Today, the Prinzenpalais serves as an exhibition house for 19th and 20th century art.
