Redemptoristenkloster Heiligenborn

After World War II, there was a desire in Saarland to establish a new monastic settlement to provide cultural and educational impulses. The state government under Johannes Hoffmann supported this initiative. On November 13, 1949, the monastery was consecrated in a former HJ-home. The name Heiligenborn derives from a legend about an early Christian hermit at a nearby spring. Furthermore, the monastery continued the tradition of the dissolved Premonstratensian Abbey of Wadgassen. As the original chapel was too small, construction of a monastery church began in 1951, also designed by György Lehoczky. The foundation stone was laid on September 30, 1951, and the church was consecrated as early as December 7, 1952. A boarding school, opened in 1950/1951, had to close in 1979 due to staffing and financial problems. The monastery was primarily a pastoral care center, whose brothers conducted parish missions in Saarland and assisted with pastoral care in surrounding communities and a nearby retirement home. It also offered an extensive program of services, retreats, and discussions within the monastery itself. It was also known for organ concerts and meditation courses. In November 2009, the monastery was abandoned by the Redemptorists, and the monastery church was deconsecrated. In September 2017, the property was auctioned off.

The former Redemptorist Monastery Heiligenborn is located in Saarland, Germany, above the Saar near the municipality of Bous.

The former monastery is no longer in ecclesiastical use, having been sold to an entrepreneur in 2017. It is a listed building, thus preserving its historical significance.
