Redemptoristenkloster Sankt Josef

The monastery was founded in 1854 when the Redemptorist Fathers moved into their newly constructed building complex and dedicated the accompanying church to Saint Joseph. The structure is considered a characteristic example of Neo-Romanesque sacred architecture of its time. During the Kulturkampf in 1872, the Fathers were forced to leave the monastery but returned in 1894. In World War II, the monastery and church suffered significant damage but were subsequently rebuilt, with the original rib vaults replaced by flat ceilings. In 1969, the Motherhouse of the Borromean Sisters Hospital took over the complex. The Redemptorists moved to another house in 1973 and relocated their ecclesiastical activities. Since then, the building has been used by the religious community of the Borromean Sisters.

The Monastery of Saint Joseph is located in the city of Trier, one of Germany's oldest cities, in the state of Rhineland-Palatinate.

Today, the former monastery complex is utilized by the religious community of the Borromean Sisters.
