The Residence can be visited

The Landshut Residence, an example of early Renaissance architecture north of the Alps, was inspired by Italian models. It is located in the city of Landshut in Bavaria.

History+

Under Duke Ludwig X., the Landshut City Residence was built between 1536 and 1543. Initially, the "German Building" was erected by local master builders, including Bernhard Zwitzel from Augsburg. After a trip to Italy, Duke Ludwig X. commissioned Italian architects and specialists who added the "Italian Building." This extension, a typical Italian Renaissance palazzo, was modeled after the Palazzo del Te in Mantua and extended the residence to the rear. The inner courtyard is adorned with arcades.
