Idstein Residential Palace, a structure built in the Renaissance style, was erected on a rock massif in the Hessian town of Idstein. It continues to shape the townscape, showcasing a connection to older architectural elements.

History+

The construction of the current palace took place between 1614 and 1634 under the direction of Jost and Henrich Heer (Höer). It was built for Count Ludwig and his son Count Johann, incorporating existing building materials into the new structure. It is presumed that the palace rock was already built upon in the 11th century. During the reign of Prince Georg August Samuel of Nassau-Idstein, the building received its interior design, conceived by Maximilian von Welsch.
