Adelwitz Manor

The first documented mention of Adelwitz dates back to 1235 under the name "Odilwicz", followed by "Odalitz" in 1362. In this early phase, Marienstern Monastery in Mühlberg received donations and acquired interest in Adelwitz. A development occurred in 1568, when Bishop Johann IX. von Haugwitz of Meissen transferred three taxable farms to his relative Christoph von Haugwitz, with the option of establishing a manor there. From 1602, these estates came under the rule of the von Holtzendorff family. The property suffered destruction during the Thirty Years' War when it was burned down by the Swedish General Johan Banér, but was subsequently rebuilt.
