Beienrode Manor

The first documented mention of Beienrode, then a clearing settlement called "Bodenrod," dates back to 980, when Emperor Otto II granted the estate in the Derlingo district to Count Mamecho. Whether this referred to the present-day Beienrode is not definitively clear. The location, situated on the Schunter River, became part of the Welf possessions under Henry the Lion from the 12th century. After his downfall, the Hasenwinkel region, to which Beienrode belonged, repeatedly changed hands between Braunschweig and Lüneburg until it finally became Lüneburgian in 1428. From 1411, the von Veltheim family shaped the estate for approximately 400 years, leaving behind, among other things, the chapel from 1433.
