Besenhausen Manor

The first documented mention of the village of Besenhausen dates to the early 14th century, though its existence likely began 300 to 400 years earlier. In 1307, Besenhausen was first recorded as property of the von Hanstein family, who held the village as a fief from the Archbishops of Mainz. A year later, in 1308, the Hansteins were tasked with building a castle in Besenhausen. Around 1360, the village became deserted, but the von Hanstein family managed to retain their own property. Johann von Hanstein had a Renaissance building constructed in 1540.
