Bothmer Manor

The Bothmer I Manor House originally consisted of two large wings and an ornate tower. The tower is not preserved in this state, and the first wing, built in the 16th century, no longer exists at all. The first evidence of a residential court dates back to 1340. Between 1500 and 1586, the Old House (now dilapidated, see above) was built; the tower and the other wing followed in 1596.

In 1629, the Bothmer I Manor House was acquired by the von Bülow family, who held it until 1770. During this period, the manor house underwent several alterations and expansions. In 1680, a new main building was constructed, incorporating parts of the older structures. This new building featured a baroque design with a prominent central projection and a mansard roof. The interior was decorated with stucco ceilings and elaborate wood paneling.

In the 18th century, the manor house was further embellished with a landscaped park, including a formal garden, an orangery, and various sculptures. The park was designed in the French style, with geometric patterns and symmetrical arrangements. The manor house became a cultural center, hosting concerts, theatrical performances, and literary gatherings.

In 1770, the Bothmer I Manor House was sold to the von Bothmer family, who gave it its current name. The von Bothmer family undertook extensive renovations, transforming the baroque manor house into a neoclassical residence. The exterior was simplified, with the removal of some of the baroque ornamentation, and the interior was redecorated in the neoclassical style, with lighter colors and more restrained designs.
