Broicher Hof Manor

In 1434, Adam von Broich was enfeoffed with the Vogtei zu Broich (Broichweiden) and various estates, namely zu Pattern (near Aldenhoven), zu Wyß (Dürwiß), zu Roide (Röhe) and zu Vrankenhoven. The Hof zu "Wyß" came from the possession of his mother, the sister of Johann von Werth (Johan van Werde gen. Wyß), who is still mentioned as Hof owner in 1449 but was inherited around 1450 by his nephews Adam and Wilhelm von Broich and their stepbrother Simon von Bergrath, the son of Reinhard von Bergrath, who was enfeoffed with the Dürwiß estate in 1402, and was the stepfather of the von Broich brothers. The childless Johann van Werde gen. Wyß (he also owned a Hof zu Werth south of Eschweiler) belonged, according to his coat of arms, to the same family as the von Wyß gen. Schobbendorp, owners of the estate later called Drimborner Hof, opposite the Broicher Hof in Dürwiß.

The manor house with corner turrets is today the only remaining building of the former Hof. Until the Second World War, it also included a courtyard with farm buildings that adjoined the manor house. During the Second World War, the manor house was severely damaged, and the farm buildings were completely destroyed.

The Dürwisser Hof (Broicher Hof) was one of the feudal estates of the Aldenhoven Mannkammer in the 15th century.

On August 11, 1677, according to a power of attorney, a division of the Broich possessions took place. The older son Maximilian von Broich was awarded the Hofe zu Wyß. The last feudal lord of the Broicher Hof was the Elector of Cologne's chamberlain Carl Phillipp Freiherr von Broich. Later owners: Stürtz, Delhougne and since 1890 Mrs. Widow Heinrich Schmitz, Josef Kerres (1927), in 1941 BIAG Zukunft and in the same year sold on to the farmer Bohr. After the Second World War, the damage was so severe that further use of the Hof as a farm was impossible. In 1951, the municipality of Dürwiß acquired the ruin, which was rebuilt with the help of the state. A kindergarten and some residential houses were later built on the surrounding land of the Hof. Initially, apartments were set up in the Hof itself; later, the Arbeiterwohlfahrt moved into the house, and until early 2008, the Eschweiler Forestry Office was located in the building.

The coat of arms, which can be seen today above the entrance door of the Broicher Hof, is the alliance coat of arms of Johann Werner von Broich (near Jülich) and his wife Richmund Anna Margarethe von Siegen zu Sechtem and zu Broich near Jülich. The bar in the middle of the shield of the von Broich coat of arms can still be seen today in the municipal coat of arms of the municipality of Dürwiß. This armorial stone was walled in above the portal of the old parish church, which was completely destroyed in the war and was originally the family chapel of the von Broichs, until 1944.

The left half is the coat of arms of the von Broichs (the bar, which can still be seen in the municipal coat of arms today, is in the middle of the shield). Above it is a three-pronged label, then the helmet with a crown, and finally a goat's head with a collar.

The Dürwiß municipal coat of arms shows three roses (two at the top, one at the bottom), which come from the coat of arms of the family zu Drimborn (Drimbornshof), and in the middle of the shield, the crossbar from the coat of arms of the von Broichs.
