Cannewitz Manor

The origins of Cannewitz Manor can be traced back to the 13th century, evidenced by the ancient brewing rights of the brewery located there. In 1445, it was mentioned as a knight's seat and from 1551, it was managed as a full manor. Balthasar von Döben is known as the first owner. The core of the current manor house was built in the late 16th century. The von Starschädel family owned the estate from 1629 and sold it in 1699 to Count von Bünau. Hop cultivation was an economic sector even in the Middle Ages; an inheritance register from 1665 confirms the subjects' obligation to supply the necessary poles. In 1745, the manor passed into the possession of Count von Stubenberg.
