Rittergut Deensen in Lower Saxony is a historic manor and estate house, with origins dating back to the Middle Ages. It shows the preserved traces of a former moated castle, on whose foundations the current building was erected.

History+

The first documentary mention of the village of Deensen, then known as Dedenhusen, dates back to 1220. In 1483, Godewart von Campe received permission to rebuild and resettle the village of Deensen, which had been devastated during the Hussite Wars, as a knight's estate. A moated castle was built, and people settled around it. In 1825, the current manor house was built on the remaining foundations of the former moated castle, incorporating old cellar vaults and thick sandstone walls.
