Großjena Manor
In the center of the village is the former manor of the Großjena knight's estate with a Neoclassical manor house from 1818, a pleasure garden with historic roses, the formerly associated park, and the administrator's house with an orangery. Until the establishment of the knight's estate in 1548, a Vorwerk (outlying farm) of the Georgenkloster Naumburg was located here, presumably originating from the former castle of the Ekkehardiner. The knight's estate was converted into a fortified moated castle, whose foundations were reused for the Neoclassical new building of the manor house after the destruction by Napoleonic troops retreating after the Battle of the Nations near Leipzig in October 1813.
Significant owners of the knight's estate included the Saxon Chief Forester Hans von Wiltperg († 1576, epitaph in St. Marien Church in Freyburg), the mayor and syndic of the city of Naumburg, Sixtus Braun († 1614), the Saxon-Weissenfels court jeweler and court factor Johann Gottfried Hoffmann from Halle (owner from 1670 to 1720), the Royal Saxon Privy Cabinet and War Minister Georg Wilhelm von Hopfgarten († April 1813), the Prussian Chamber Councillor Christoph Wilhelm Loss (from 1816 to 1830), the District Administrator of the Naumburg district, Hermann Jacobi von Wangelin (1812 to 1903). In 1945, the last owners, the Ernst Laux family, were dispossessed and expelled by the communists. Afterwards, the municipality used the manor house as a school until its abandonment in 1983 due to dilapidation. The courtyard was divided for new farmers. With the baroque courtyard gate and the restored garden areas, an impression of the original ensemble is once again possible today. In the manor house, in addition to many original architectural details, the halls and the staircase are also worth seeing.
The park is now a natural monument with carpets of spring bloomers such as snowdrops, spring snowflakes, wood anemones, and wild daffodils. Among others, the Red Kite nests in the ancient park trees.
