Großstädteln Manor

The manor of Großstädteln was first mentioned in 1289 as being in the possession of the Lords of Stedelen. Ownership then changed in 1482 to the Knights of Pflugk, in 1530 to the Lords of Erdmannsdorf, in the 17th century to the Lords of Dieskau, in 1674 to the von Kospoth family, in 1690 to the von Lüttichau family, in 1730 to the Nobles and Counts of Hohenthal (who rebuilt the castle in 1734), in 1860 to Christian Gottlob Weiß and subsequently to the von Posern family. Around 1870, the moated castle was rebuilt into its current form. In 1925, ownership changed to AG Sächsische Werke in Dresden. In 1945, the owners were dispossessed by the communists. The manor served as an apprentice dormitory until 1990 and thereafter as an asylum seekers' home. During this time, the house was completely ruined.
