The Manor House of Gerbstedt+
In 1313, a castle "Gerksem" was documented as being pledged to the Knights of Alvesleben. In 1860, the present manor house was built.
History of the Building+
The manor house is a two-story plastered brick building with a hipped roof. The seven-axis main facade faces south. The three central axes are emphasized by a risalit, which is crowned by a triangular gable. The risalit is adorned with corner pilasters and a decorative frieze. The windows are rectangular and have simple surrounds. The main entrance is located in the central axis of the risalit and is framed by a portico with two columns.
The interior of the manor house has largely been preserved in its original form. On the ground floor, there are several representative rooms, including a large hall, a dining room, and a salon. The upper floor houses the private rooms of the former owners. The manor house is surrounded by a park, which was probably laid out at the same time as the house was built.
Current Use+
After the expropriation of the owners in 1945, the manor house was used for various purposes. It served as a school, a kindergarten, and a residential building. In the 1990s, the manor house was extensively renovated and converted into a hotel. Today, the manor house of Gerbstedt is a popular destination for tourists and a venue for various events.
Architectural Significance+
The manor house of Gerbstedt is an important example of historicist architecture in Saxony-Anhalt. It combines elements of Neoclassicism and Neo-Renaissance and is characterized by its clear proportions and elegant design. The manor house is a listed building and is considered a cultural monument of national importance.
The Park+
The park surrounding the manor house was probably laid out at the same time as the house was built. It is designed as a landscape park and features a variety of trees and shrubs. In the park, there is also a small pond and several sculptures. The park is open to the public and invites visitors to take a stroll and relax.
Events and Activities+
