Kuntzow Manor

The manor house of Bredenfelde, an impressive example of classicist architecture, is located in the heart of Mecklenburg. Surrounded by an extensive park landscape, it tells a story spanning several centuries, marked by noble families, political upheavals, and dedicated restoration work.

From the Corswandt Family to the Present Day

The manor house was built in 1812 on the walls of a previous building by the von Corswandt family. In 1945, the owners were dispossessed and expelled by the communists.

After the expropriation in 1945, the manor house served various purposes during the GDR era, including a refugee reception center, a school, and residential units. These uses, while keeping the building from falling into complete disrepair, led to significant structural changes and neglect of the historic fabric.

After the reunification, the manor house was acquired by a private investor in 1996, who initiated extensive and careful restoration work. The goal was to restore the building to its original classicist splendor and to adapt it for modern use.

The manor house of Bredenfelde presents itself as a two-story plastered building with a striking central risalit, crowned by a triangular pediment. The clear lines, symmetrical facade design, and restrained decorative elements are characteristic of classicism.

Inside, historical room structures and details have been preserved or painstakingly reconstructed. High ceilings, stucco elements, and original wooden floors convey an authentic impression of the former living culture.

The manor house is embedded in a generously proportioned landscape park, which was probably laid out at the same time as the construction of the house. The park features old tree stands, winding paths, and picturesque views, inviting visitors to stroll and linger.

The restoration of the park also placed great emphasis on historical accuracy, with the aim of recreating the original design principles while preserving the natural beauty.

Today, the manor house of Bredenfelde is used as a hotel and event location. It offers guests the opportunity to experience history up close in an elegant ambience. Regular cultural events, such as concerts and exhibitions, enrich the life in and around the manor house.
